Aside from that what struck me about this magnificent piece of writing -h/t Larry Elder- is the line, “Tell Rekia Boyd how it’s so much better to live in 2012 than it is to live in 1612 or 1712... Tell that to Eric Garner. Tell that to Sandra Bland. Tell that to Dorian Hunt.” That’s magnificent history for the telescoping and perspective and it gets me to thinking. It gets me to thinking about what is couched in the context of what was i think aforementioned in the selfsame article - namely, the context of perspective and its juxtaposition in terms of the main subject here of race and I think, ya know, why is it, given drastically better living standards than the past more money things fancy cars the internet planes trains automobiles satellites cell phones and hot women women everywhere we don’t know what to do with and frankly cannot control...
With all these things why does the white man yearn for the past. Moreover, why does the black man relish the present and seek more of the same but in greater scope and scale of current trends?
Black men get paid more and have more but so does everybody. Is it just that whites begrudge the black man’s benefit? Nay, I dare say not. I impute rather, the white man has lost his dignity in these years. Over this last stretch the white man has been more steadily brought down & disparaged by his peers his female counterparts, every race and his own children - his work fellows and every single foreign person. And I impute the white man could care less about gadgets and money - well at least the white men for whom dignity matters. The white man has lost his dignity. And ya know, so has the black man. But for many blacks excited about making more of the same but in increasing quantity and scope - for those seeking to hurdle into the future unabated without checks apparently dignity is no object. The family is broken 75% of them are bastards illegitimate. Half live off the government or do some song and dance for the white man in entertainment. Among the black population since the 1964 Civil Rights Act LBJ passed Affirmative Action a racial entitlement for work/school the total black incarceration time went from 10k yrs to 50 x 10^6. That’s 50 million. And it is not due to a population growth explosion. It is due to more criminal convictions and longer. That’s 5000x more jail time for the blacks. 500k % more jail time since Civil Rights.
You know what also changed after Civil Rights? The nuclear family divided. Now divorce is common. And illegitimate children is much more common. Now we have no Dads lots of jail time and kids in the street we have gangs crime & bedlam. This anarchy robs people of peaceful living so for Rekia Boyd Eric Garner & Sandra Bland it is not a better time. And for anyone who loves order (and God) it has been a very bad stretch in culture.
I hope we can reason together with wonderful thought pieces like Larry’s and discuss whether we think social progress is a function of work & building over time or one of handouts & entitlements.
